Urgent Care Q & A

Why would I need urgent care?

Even when you're generally healthy, unexpected medical issues can arise that require prompt attention. Urgent care services are designed to provide quick, convenient care for situations that are important but not life-threatening. You might need urgent care services if you experience:

  • Sudden illness, like fever, flu, or infections
  • Minor injuries such as sprains, cuts, or burns
  • Respiratory issues like cough, congestion, or asthma flare-ups
  • Digestive problems like stomach pain, nausea, or diarrhea
  • Skin concerns such as tashes, allergic reactions, or insect bites
  • Need for same-day prescription refills or medication adjustments

What is the difference between urgent care and emergency care?

Emergency care treats life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, chest pain, fever >104, stroke-like symptoms, severe abdominal pain, broken bones, suicidal thoughts, seizures, severe allergic reactions or anaphylaxis, sudden weakness/numbness/slurred speech, breathing difficulties, heavy bleeding, and loss of consciousness. We do not treat these life-threatening conditions at Whole Path Integrative Care.

In addition, emergency care treats patients based on their level of need, so if you dislocate your shoulder, you might have to wait hours to see a doctor, especially if there is someone in front of you suffering from a more serious condition, like respiratory failure. Urgent care, on the other hand, addresses conditions that require immediate treatment, but don’t threaten your life.

What types of conditions can benefit from urgent care?

The team at Whole Path Integrative Care offers urgent care services and same-day telehealth appointments to address a variety of issues, including:

  • Upper respiratory infections (cold, flu, sinusitis)
  • Bronchitis, mild asthma flare-ups
  • Seasonal allergies
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin rashes, hives, and non-anaphylactic allergic reactions
  • Minor eye infections (conjunctivitis, styes)
  • Ear pain/infections
  • Sore throat, pharyngitis, mild strep
  • Headaches
  • Gastrointestinal complaints (nausea, mild diarrhea, indigestion, GERD)
  • Mild dehydration
  • Sleep issues, stress, and fatigue
  • Medication refills
  • Anxiety/panic attacks

The team also offers urgent care for sports-related injuries such as sprains, strains, and stress fractures.

What should I do in the event of a medical emergency?

If you or a loved one experiences a medical emergency, it’s important to stay calm. First, determine whether or not the situation is life-threatening. Common symptoms that require emergency treatment include:

  • Vision loss
  • Head trauma
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Severe chest pain
  • Signs of anaphylaxis

If you believe this is emergent, call 911 or go immediately to your closest emergency department.

However, if your condition isn’t emergent, make an urgent care appointment at Whole Path Integrative Care.
